Polaris is ALCF's latest high performance compute system for the ALCF user community. Polaris is a HPE Apollo 6500 Gen10+ with Nvidia GPUs and is currently the #14 system on Top500 list. This overview will provide a look at the Polaris hardware details and software available on the system and give users a short demo of how to get started working on the system. In this talk using Python/Conda on Polaris, with an emphasis on using ML libraries for distributed training will be discussed. 


Speakers Bio

Kevin Harms is a team lead of the Performance Engineering group within the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF). His interests include working on high performance storage and I/O. Kevin received his Master of Science from Illinois Institute of Technology and his Bachelor of Science from Purdue University.

Sam Foreman is a computational scientist with a background in high energy physics at the ALCF. He is generally interested in the application of machine learning to computational problems in physics, particularly within the context of high performance computing. Sam's current research focuses on using deep generative modeling to help build better sampling algorithms for simulations in lattice gauge theory. Sam's Personal website:
