Description

What are Argonne IT teams doing about disk encryption for Linux servers?

CELS Research Computing is exploring disk encryption at the server level and across server infrastructure — and we want to hear from the broader Argonne IT community before charting a path forward.

This is a community roundtable, not a lecture. No formal presentations required — just a structured conversation about what teams across the lab are doing (or considering) in this space:

  • What tools or solutions are you using, evaluating, or aware of?
  • At what layer are you applying encryption — filesystem, block device, volume?
  • What's working? What isn't? What are the operational tradeoffs?
  • Are there gaps no current solution addresses well?

Our goal: get a clear picture of the landscape across Argonne, identify any viable solutions CELS RC could adopt, and explore whether there's appetite to collaborate on shared practices or establish a common standard.

Whether you have a fully implemented solution, a work-in-progress, or you're just curious what others are doing — you're welcome here.
