DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Agostino Marinelli (SLAC & Stanford University)\n\nA
bstract: X-ray free-electron lasers are the brightest sources of x-rays\,
with a peak brightness that surpasses synchrotron sources by ten orders of
magnitude. Similarly to table-top lasers\, XFELs exhibit a remarkable deg
ree of flexibility\, which allows accelerator physicists to tailor the pul
se properties to specific experimental needs.\nResearch and development on
XFELs has had a remarkable impact on the user programs of LCLS and other
facilities\, leading to new experimental capabilities\, advanced diagnosti
cs\, and improved beam brightness.\nIn my talk I will discuss recent resul
ts and future directions in XFEL research at the Linac Coherent Light Sour
ce: I will start by presenting the development of attosecond x-ray pulses
and attosecond pump/probe capabilities at LCLS-II\, I will then present th
e recent demonstration of hard x-ray attosecond pulses\, and discuss ongoi
ng and future research on cavity-based XFELs and waveform-controlled few-c
 ycle pulses.\n\nhttps://events.cels.anl.gov/event/850/
