Description
Abstract: The PIP-II Project is under construction to provide the Fermilab Accelerator Complex with:
- a new H- SRF linac and beam transfer line delivering 800 MeV protons at Booster injection at double energy and double intensity (6.7x1012 proton per pulse) in comparison with the present Linac.
- Upgrades of the Booster/RR/MI synchrotron chain to deliver the design 1.2 kW beam power on LBNF/DUNE target by to accelerating the double proton intensity.
The design of PIP-II will be described, including LBNF-DUNE objectives, CW operation compatibility and future upgrades.
The project accelerator physics, and technology progress will be reviewed, with some emphasis on the commissioning phases.
Specific challenges facing the project will be addressed, along with current thinking on solutions.
