HPC-GUI: A web platform for PBS batch script design

America/Chicago
Description

Resource management programs like PBS provide options to handle most issues that arise in heterogeneous, cross-core, and cross-host computing environments. This advantage comes at the cost of large manuals that are hard for those new to HPC clusters to reference and learn. Without careful training, wasteful resource usage follows. Even experienced users have to regularly look up common options, such as available queues, various flags, and resource selection subcommands. HPC-GUI addresses these barriers by providing an intuitive interface that describes each option, allowed values, and links to authoritative documentation where appropriate. The result of user input is an editable text field containing a full job submission script. To illustrate the capability of our approach, we added some common and difficult default resource usage patterns for NAMD and LAMMPS.
